Visit a bustling fish market where you will see the colorful array of seafood. Then we’ll experience a lively date market where you will learn about the region’s many varieties of dates. Early this evening, visit the impressive Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Mosque, a sprawling structure initiated by the late president of the UAE. Created in hopes of uniting the cultural diversity of the Islamic world, it’s a prominent place of worship. This evening, join your fellow travelers for a welcome dinner.

Day 4

Day 4: Abu Dhabi

Learn the importance of falcons to Arabian culture at the largest falcon hospital in the UAE. Explore its museum that takes you through the history of falconry and take advantage of this rare opportunity to see these majestic birds up close. Step into the examination room to perhaps witness a falcon checkup or a pedicure. You might even have a falcon sit on your arm! Next, travel to Masdar City, a sustainable eco-community relying on solar power and renewable energy. Ride aboard a driverless car to the city center to enjoy a walking tour and learn about futuristic initiatives. The remainder of the afternoon is yours.

Day 5

Fly to Oman, a mystical land of contrasts with deep traditions and friendly people. Discover the port city of Muscat, the capital and heart of Oman. Your afternoon city tour reveals Old Muscat and the Corniche before arriving at Mutrah Souq, the oldest bazaar in Oman. Wander and browse the souq’s narrow lanes and colorful displays. Tonight, enjoy traditional Omani cuisine at a seaside home.

Day 6

Day 6: Muscat - Wadi Bani Khalid - Wahiba Sands – Muscat

Buckle up today! Board a 4-wheel drive vehicle for your journey to Wadi Bani Khalid. Pass through the striking Western Hajar Mountains with their colorful rock formations before arriving at the stunning wadi (valley floor). Stroll through the wadi before pausing to relax and enjoy a picnic lunch. Continue to the breathtaking desert dunes of Wahiba Sand, home to a nomadic Bedouin Wahiba tribe that once crossed the dunes in search of water. Spend time at their camp and get to know their culture. Take a short camel ride followed by an exhilarating “dune bashing” by 4x4, a favorite local activity.

Day 7

Day 7: Muscat - Nizwa - Jabrin – Muscat

Travel to the traditional city of Nizwa, Oman’s old capital city from the 6th and 7th centuries. Step back in time as you walk through the impressive 17th-century fort before exploring the souq, famous for Bedouin silver and beautifully crafted clay items. Next, discover Jabrin’s late 17th-century Jabreen Castle, the finest in all of Oman. Pause for a moment to take in the view from the top of the castle…it is mesmerizing.

Day 8

Day 8: Muscat - Al Ain, UAE

As we head back to the UAE we will stop en route to visit the Grand Mosque of Oman. Stand in awe of this remarkable sandstone structure that is home to the world’s second-largest hand woven carpet and chandelier. Continue to Nakhal Fort which lies on a hill at the base of Mount Nakhal and was built 350 years ago to protect trade routes. Drive through a date plantation on the way to our next stop at Ain Thowarah, known for its hot springs. Crossing the border into the UAE, we will do as thousands of desert travelers have done before us and arrive at Al Ain…a lush oasis of palm trees, flowers and fountains.

Day 9

Day 9: Al Ain – Dubai

Get acquainted with Al Ain, “the garden city” of the UAE. With abundant groundwater springs, this “oasis town” was the perfect stopover on the caravan trail between the UAE to the Sultanate of Oman. Explore the museum to learn about the unique irrigation system – known as Falaj. Continue on to Hili Gardens and the city’s archaeological sites where a village and a burial ground dating back to 2700 B.C. were discovered. This afternoon, arrive in the epic city of Dubai, known for its beautiful coasts and magnificent man-made wonders.

Day 10

Day 10: Dubai

This morning, the choice is yours. Will you sail on a dhow (traditional boat) along the Dubai Creek? Or, travel to Dubai Marina, one of the “newest” sections of Dubai, by metro where you can enjoy a leisurely walk along the water? Following your walk, set out for Palm Jumeirah, one of Dubai’s many man-made islands. This evening, enjoy a desert dinner with traditional Arabic cuisine and traditional dances.

Day 11

Day 11: Dubai

We start our day with a visit to the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding, located in the oldest traditional Emirati neighborhood, Bur Dubai. Walk among the neighborhood’s narrow sikkas (alleyways) and gaze at the beautiful wind towers that adorn the original residences along Dubai Creek. Visit the Dubai Museum and textile market before taking a ride across the dazzling Dubai Creek in a private “abra” (traditional water taxi). Witness the bustling waterfront as you pass by.
